Pastor’s Weekly Message: 2/7/25
Hey All,
Martin Luther once wrote that “the heart overflows with good things when our treasure is Christ.” This is the beauty of the gospel—the love of God is not something we hoard, but something that transforms us, making us generous in spirit and action. At Westview, we don’t just talk about faith; we live it. We welcome people to come and see, to experience the reality of Christ among us, not as an abstract idea, but in real and tangible ways: in the bread we break together, in the hands we extend to one another, and in the love we share.
Abraham Lincoln, in a time of great division, spoke of the “better angels of our nature,” reminding us that dignity and humanity are not just ideals but responsibilities. As a church, we hold onto this truth. Generosity is more than giving—it is seeing one another as beloved children of God, worthy of love, care, and justice. When we welcome the stranger, serve our neighbors, and extend grace to those around us, we are living into our calling as the body of Christ.
Right now, our church is called to stand in that love. Bishop Elizabeth Eaton recently released a video in support of Lutheran Family Services, which has come under attack for its work of welcome and care. Being church in this time and place means standing with those who extend Christ’s love in bold and faithful ways. We invite you to watch the video and reflect on what it means for us to be part of a church that truly welcomes as Christ’s body in the world.
Peace,
Pastor Marty
